Writting was at first spell casting, with symbols interwoven in a way to achieve the desired result. When alphabet appeared the mixing of letters weakened the magic and required more intense spelling to cast magic. But when books started being printed the noise was so big that no magic was possible anymore. However when humans arrived on Mars, equipments were labelled with icons for caution and to help making things happen. Slowly magic appeared on Mars with the growth of the human settlement, the exclusive usage of symbols for safety and guidance and books being kept at bay on Earth.
