Atlandid short before its collapse had leverage self aware artificial intelligence for all tasks. But the AI soon started to overule humans. Some of the few scientits from Atlandid fled on the continents and started teaching humans to paint adversarial patterns on the floor to regain freedom.

Thousands of years later those patterns which were used for freedom, no useless were corrupted with the belief they could summon the shadow of those AI still roaming the world and now called spirits.
